No doubt you've thought of some questions, and may even question the validity of some of the claims you've read...
There are several companies out there who are feeding the frenzy of effect modifications. It is NOT my intention to anger any of these companies nor their representatives... I just want to help YOU to understand what makes their claims valid (or not)... I want YOU to be able to do what they do, and to understand the what, why, how of the do-it-yourself guitar pedal modifications.
There is little concrete information regarding what to expect when you change this capacitor with that value, or what a metal film capacitor does. What is the "Brown Mod?" And, why does it matter? Can my TS-5 scream as well as your TS-808, or your TS-9? Why (or why not)?
What's the difference between an Overdrive and a Distortion? How is FUZZ different from Distortion? What makes up those differences?
So much of the hype around words like creamy, clear, crunchy, smooth, punchy, tube-like (etc.), can each be explained with specific technicality. There is a reason the circuit delivers a different "tone" or a wider tone spectrum, or a slightly louder level.
