Guitar Tuning

Guitar tuning is one of the most important steps in playing guitar. When your guitar is properly tuned, your guitar playing can sound its very best!

There are several guitar tuning variations in addition to what are considered the "standard tuning" patterns. These charts can serve as the beginning to your guitar tuning experimentation.

The guitar tuning variations included in these guitar tuning charts are sometimes called "open tuning" which refers to a complete chord being tuned into the open, or un-fretted strings. As you strum the guitar with an open tuning, the chord will ring, and will sound great to your ears. When tuning the guitar in these variations, the note positions will change because of their placement in the tuning arrangement.

Tuning Guitar with a Guitar Tuner

Tuning the guitar with a tuner is very simple. It is best to use the neck pickup with the volume control set to maximum lever, and the tone control set to about half-way. That way the upper harmonics are minimized, and the string is rotating at a larger arc.
