Yamaha SBG500
Purchased 1980 Sold 2006
This was my favorite guitar ever, so far.
Played in one band called The Plutonians in Dallas TX. This Yamaha SBG500 electric guitar was purchased to replace the slightly heavier Ibanez PF-300 set-neck Les Paul copy I had since 1979. The other members of the band were Michael Baughman and Mike Thibodeau. These guys were great to make music with! Hey, Baughman... If you're out there... Please contact me! Contact made! 20081>
The construction of the Yamaha SBG500 was truly solid. One of the qualities I appreciated most was the sustain. This guitar could hold a note forever. Well, almost forever. The action was set very low most of the time, and there was no string buzz at all from extremely low string height. At different times, I would set the action a bit higher, and enjoy the way it played, too!

Well, I used it for all those years as my main guitar, and everyone who played it complimented it for looks, playability and tone! This guitar had the stock humbucker pickups in it, and NEVER needed anything except an occational wipe down on string changes, and regular cleaning after play, and before putting it away in its case.
The original hard shell guitar case was solid, and protected the guitar from too much harm. I did find the instrument had a crunch in the edge of the body sometime in the past few years, and I suspect it was crunched by someone other than me. I remember things like that, and don't remember crunching this one...
I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed the Yamaha solid body set-neck electric guitar. Please click on the thumbnails for a closer look. It was truly a beautiful electric guitar to look at as well as listen to.

If you look around, you can find one in pretty nice condition. These are well worth a few hundred bucks. If you can get your hands on a Yamaha SBG500, I highly recommend it!
Peace All -
Scott
